One of my ongoing goals this year is to take better care of my hair and prioritizing local brands. The last year has been a tough one for small businesses and I try to put my money back into the community where it’s possible. In case you didn’t know, I spend a lot of time on Instagram (for work/myself). Honestly, that app really knows how to do a targeted ad properly. Nine times out of ten, I get ads that actually make sense and help me find new businesses to support. This time around, I’ve been getting quite a few ads that focus on Black-owned hair care and accessory brands that I didn’t know about.
If you’re new here, I’ve written about Black-owned online thrift stores to shop, women-owned businesses selling CBD products, Insta-worthy candles and more because I tend to write about what I like and where other people can find it.
So, I’ve compiled a short guide to some Black and brown-owned businesses selling a variety of hair-related products from hair serums to bonnets. As it stands, these are all women-owned brands and while some have online stores/stockists – a few are just selling via Instagram.
Have a look below and let me know if you have any other suggestions? I’ve bought from some of these brands but not all, and am on the lookout for more to add to the list.
