5 breakfast spots in Cape Town

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and it features some of my most beloved foods. Eggs Benedict? A little crepe action? Sign me up.

While in Cape Town I’ve found some places to eat at that never get their breakfast menus wrong and I often get asked where to go when friends come to visit. I’m a picky eater and can react badly to new food spots, so when I find one I stick to it for a reason. Have a look at my all-time favourite breakfast spots (for now).
Do note that the trading hours are subject to change and you’ll have to ask if they’re halaal/vegan/gluten-free etc.

Clarke’s

A popular Bree Street eatery, Clarke’s is one of my all-time spots. The food is great, you can order breakfast all day long and you can take friends for drinks or dinner. I always recommend this place to people who’ve never lived in Cape Town and want some good, easy food choices.
My top picks: The avo on toast or the hash eggs (or the twice-fried fries)

133 Bree St | Cape Town | weekdays7 am ’till late (the kitchen closes from 4pm – 5pm) Sat: 8 am ’till late Sun: 8am – 3pm

Four & Twenty Cafe

I’m rarely in the Southern Suburbs, unless I’m going to visit friends or have errands to run. However, if I do venture that side (all 10km away – how incredibly far, lol) I like to go to Four & Twenty. My friend invited me there for brunch one morning and the food is good, plus the decor is has that quaint cafe feel. Bonus is that there’s lots of trees in the area so you can get a nice Instagram photo too.

23 Wolfe St | Wynberg |8am – 5pm (Sun: 9am – 4pm)

Jarryd’s

One of my favourite spots in the Atlantic Seaboard, Jarryd’s is a regular brunch spot for me. It’s not too far from my house so I can walk there. The food’s good, the staff are friendly and efficient (like, really) and it’s a nice way to spend an early Saturday morning post promenade walk. It gets busy in the mornings and they don’t take bookings so it’s very much first come, first serve.

90 Regent Rd |Sea Point | 8:30am – 4:30pm

Kleinsky’s

You love a good bagel? I do too. I even got my mom onto the salmon bagel moment and she hasn’t looked back. I’m lucky to live super close to Kleinsky’s, a deli in the Atlantic Seaboard (and in the city centre) with a variety of dishes. If you’re in the mood for eggs ben or just a breakfast bagel, they really don’t disappoint.

95 Regent Rd | Sea Point | weekdays 8am – 4pm ; weekends 8am – 3pm

Swan Cafe

I’ve really got a soft spot for pancakes/crepes etc, and I’d never ventured down the savoury crepe route before. Swan Cafe is a relatively new addition to the city centre. Grab a cup of coffee and indulge in a breakfast-style crepe or just treat yourself to something sugary sweet.

Corner Buitenkant and Barrack St | Zonnebloem | weekdays 8am – 4pm (Sat: 8am – 2pm, Sun: 9am – 2pm)

Hope this helps!
