An updated skincare routine

Annnnd, we’re back! It’s 2019 and this is my first real post for the new year. So, of course I wanted to start off with skincare chats. The journey to clear skin is a long and winding road (thanks, Sheryl). It’s been up and down over the last few months and I’m trying to start off the new year with healthier skin. As as result, I’m always testing a whole bunch of products and this is what has worked for me over the last few months (since September). I’d been battling a serious breakout and this routine (along with a vitamin regime) really helped calm my skin down.

Here’s my current routine situation.

Neutrogena Gel Cleanser

I needed to try out another cleanser and was particularly looking for one with salicylic acid or some sort of chemical exfoliant. Thanks to Clicks 3-for-2 special, I got to try out this product. It’s got around 2% salicylic acid and smells like a farm in Ceres.
Pro-tip: always read the ingredient list!

Lipidol Overnight Face Oil

These particular products are a new-ish addition to my routine. Now I’ve tried the cleansing oil, but couldn’t find it in stores. I Googled and saw that the brand moved to online only sales and the shipping is free (music to my ears tbh). I’m trying both the cleansing oil and facial oil during my night time routine and I’m seeing a major difference in my skin, even when I don’t wear make-up.

CosRX BHA Power Liquid

And finally, the real game changer in my routine. I’d been researching actives and acids for the last while, but my friends put me onto this k-beauty essential. My skin responds really well to BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids) and I’ve seen a marked difference in the texture and the scarring I used to have. But, it takes time to have your skin adjust to the product. You also have to wear sunscreen to prevent possible pigmentation issues. Read up on where to get K-beauty in South Africa here.

But there’s only so much fancy skincare can do for your overall skin health. You’ve got to change other factors in your routine, too. I’ve switched up my diet, cut out fast food and incorporated omega 3 and 6, zinc and iron supplements to my routine. I’ve started yoga, walking daily and might be going back on the pill (lol, I know). I’m trying to do the best I can for my overall health so hopefully it reflects in my skin?

Hope this helps! And if you have any product recs, please share them with me?
